Today for the morning block we had kiwisport and Volleyball. Home Group 1 went to Kiwisport while we went to Volleyball. We did Volleyball because next week on Wednesday we have a Volleyball tournament. When we got to the court we had to stand on the yellow line and start to shuffle to the right and then jump and then keep shuffling. A challenge that I had to accomplish was to make sure that I am jumping at the right time with others. After we did our shuffling we had to get into a group of 6 and go to the Volleyball court so we can start practicing our bumps. When I was trying to hit the ball it always keeps going high but not far. So next time I will make sure that I am aiming before hitting the ball.
After we had Volleyball we had to go to Tennis which was 20 metres away. And for Tennis we were playing 1 v 1 but in teams. In my team it was me Toma and Tevita. In the other team it was Akanesi,Aletheia and Teresa. While we we were playing the other team kept on cheating so we had a professional Coach(Peter) to watch our game and then the game was actually fair. Our team won with 68 points and the other team lost with 61 points but it was a tough match.
This blog is a record of my learning from Tamaki Primary School in Auckland, NZ through to Tamaki College.

The battle of Tobruk
Today we were learning about the history behind our house groups. In my group it was me, Demetrius,Toma,Amon,Akanesi,Cerenity, leilani,Suave, Faataualofa and also Tevita. And the house we were working was Tobruk. When our group was called to do Tobruk I was a bit upset because we never got the best house in the school (TRIPOLI) but it was ok because at least I get to learn something new. Something I learnt about Tobruk was that Tobruk was a battlefield and that the Germans and the Britains were fighting over it. Another thing I learnt was that the Britains had been defeated and retreated back to egypt. A challenge that I found throughout this task was that I didn't know how to read any of the Sergeants name so I just typed it on google and tried to sound it out.
Pasta Salad-Technology
Today we had technology and for technology we were making a pasta salad. I was so excited because I really love pasta. While we were making the pasta my friend Lofa was stirring the top of the pasta so when we were draining the pasta there were pasta stuck to the pan. Something I really enjoyed was that I was able to work with my friends and that I was able to learn how to cook a pasta salad. Another thing I learnt was to really mix it because if I just keep mixing one spot then I won't be able to get all of it. Something I found very challenging was trying to eat vegetables and also trying to clean the pasta of the pot. So next time I will make sure I am mixing every single spot so when I am plating it or draining it nothing will stick.
Here Is how you make it:
Ingredients:
- Vegetables(Carrots,Tomatoes,Corn and Peas.
- Macaroni
- Ham
- Water
- Mayonaise
Methods:
- Boil 1 and a half cup of water
- Add Macaroni
- When its cooked, drain under water
- Fry the ham first
- Add ham to macaroni, and then mix it with mayo
- Serve on small white bowl
- ENJOY

Cricket/Tennis
Today in the first block we had cricket. And when me and my friend went to set up the cricket game he looked a bit scared and when I asked him why he's sad, he replied that he doesn't know how to bowl or bat. So while we were waiting for home group 2 to come down I was showing my friend tips that I learnt, that made me a better player. When homegroup 2 cam down we got into our teams and while picking teams I heard my name get called out and when I went to my team I saw the other team and my friends were in it and I felt pretty suspicious. Then we went into the game and I was the first batter and when I hit the ball me and my partner got out because I ran but my buddy never ran so we got out. Then after cricket we had Tennis.
When we went to tennis Peter (our instructor) said that for the rest of the practise and I was so happy. When we went to our court I started the game with a serve and when I hit the ball soft the opponent hit the ball back hard and it went straight to my head but I was OK because i'm the man. Then we had to switch but no one was standing behind us so we had to verse another team and we beat them 6 to nothing I think. But something I found challenging was trying to hit the ball soft because my muscles wanted to be strong. Something I learnt was to slow my hand down so I hit the ball soft.

Tai Chi
Today we had Tai Chi and I was Super excited because in Tai Chi we learnt a lot and we also play a few games that can help us. When we got down we had to stand into our lines without Mr Gordon telling us to. Before we did our Tiger forms we did our breathing techniques. For our breathing techniques we did around the earth and also monkey washes face. Then after our breathing techniques we started our tiger forms. For me I found that really hard because our instructor Mr Gordon was going way too fast I couldn't keep up with him. But then he slowed down and it was like a miracle come true. After learning our mighty tiger forms we went into our Sharing Circle.
Something that I learnt about myself is that I am able to think of a answer fast, when I didn't prepare. Next time when we get down to Tai Chi I could maybe show the new students what moves I have learnt. During Tai Chi I was starting to improve on being more confident. Today our power word for the week was listening. Listening means being able to use your ears. You can also listen with your body and your eyes. Today I did well but I need to focus on not laughing all the time during out tiger forms.

Tennis/KiwiSport-Reflection
Today we had tennis and kiwisport. First our homegroup 2 started with cricket but I was so sad because we had cricket on the grass and if we bowl the ball, the ball won't bounce. But I didn't care because I just wanted to play. While we were playing I had to take care of the new kid (LOFA) and while I had to stick with him I started to wonder off and when I look around me Lofa was gone but then I saw him standing by himself so I ran to him and I was so relieved because he didn't notice that I was gone. Taking care of the new Tamaki student was a challenge to me because he doesn't really understand english so I had to speak Samoan for him to understand. When it was me and Lofa's turn to go bat I thought that I had to teach him but when he bat the ball it was like he had to teach me. After a few runs we finally got out and we had to switch over.
Then we got to tennis and for tennis we were doing rallies but in different ways. First we had to get in 2 groups and the 2 groups were red and yellow and I was in the red group with most of my friends. Then our instructor selected four people to stand on a spot and face his partner and start doing some rallies. Then it was my turn to go up and when I got up I hit the ball but then it hit our instructor but I was lucky no one knew it was me. While I was doing our rallies I got a bit off task and talked to my friends for a bit then my partner hit the ball straight to my head. So 1 thing I learnt was to always to keep focus and another thing I learnt was to hit the ball softer.

School Today
While we were doing work we looked at the clock and it was almost 11:00. I really like learning but when I saw the time it was like a miracle come true. Before we packed up we were doing tokens and I felt that no one will nominate me because i'm always talking or im always off task. But then I heard a friend of mine saying my name for being hardworking. Then I was confused because I questioned myself "did he say my name because i'm his friend?" or did he say my name because he actually meant it?". But then I heard another person say my name but he said that I was able to blog up to the number we were able to get to, and then I got a bit confused because I am usually easily distracted but I do tend to get some work done.
"RING RING RING", then the bell rings and everyone runs to their bags, grab's their hat and "ZOOMZ" outside. When we get outside it was very quiet because some people were still eating their lunch and the others are just talking their friends. But when when other students from the senior classes come down it was like a nightmare, you can hear people yelling out "PLAY SOME TOUCH!!" or others screaming on the playground. Then me and some of my friends are just talking or "kicking back" they say. While we were talking there was a bee flying past my friends head and when I told him it was so funny. He ran around acting like he was riding a horse and then he screamed like a girl from a scary movie or probably worser.
Then the bell rings and everyone "ZOOMZ" back inside and I was one of the last people to go back inside because I was trying to get the ball. But one thing I noticed was that everything was quiet. There were no screaming or yelling it was just peaceful. Then when I came back to class we were waiting outside in lines, boys and girls, and then when we were walking in class I had to step out of line for a second. And then I get a talk about my goals and when the Teacher gave me time to think about it before I go back to class I had a think, about why those two boys sayed my name for token nominations. And then I walked back to class with a happy face like I forgot all the bad memories.
The challenge for me is to be able to manage my self and to be reliable and also to do the right thing consistently even when no ones looking.

PB4L-Toilets
Today we were learning on how to take care of our toilets. When our teachers told us, we were all laughing but while we were laughing she pointed at how many toilet paper we wasted and the girls started laughing then she said how many hours girls take just to look in the mirrors inside the toilets, then no one laughed. While I was doing my work I wasn't sitting with my friends and I found that a lot better because my friends always distracts each other while we are doing our work.
Something I learnt was that whenever i'm with my friends we do more talking then working but when we are apart we start to get work done. Another thing I learnt was to take care of our toilets so everyone can be nice and healthy. Next time I will be on a close watch to who ever is wasting our toilet papers or taking their time.

Tai Chi
Today we had Tai Chi and I was so happy because Tai Chi is really relaxing. Something I learned out of this lesson was our breathing techniques. I learned more about Danny (our Instructor) and I learnt more about the word awareness. Awareness is about looking out for danger or being safe. If you are not aware something bad might happen for example if you are blind and you walk into to a room full of mouse traps you will need to be aware.
Our Instructor's name is Danny Gordon. He is a brave man who is passionate about his work and his life. He is a kind and lovely instructor to all students. Danny isn't just an instructor, he has lot of care in his body and he knows how to control it. He likes to watch rugby league and he has a son and daughter. He has a son who changed from being a rugby league player to a rugby union player. He has a daughter who is still in university and also she has a black belt.

Before we packed up we went in to our semi circle. And at that point I was so scared because I didn't know what to say so I had a little think and when it came to my turn I stood up and said what came to my head but while I was saying what my random act of kindness was I started to mess up my words. And from that I learnt to think before I speak.
Vanilla Muffins-Technology
Today we had technology and for technology we were making Vanilla Muffins. I was so happy because I really like muffins. While we were mixing the mixture with the electric mixer the mixture got very fluffy but we thought it was meant to be like that. Something I learnt was to use a plastic scraper to take the mixture off the spoon to put it into the muffin cups. I also learnt if you whisk your mixture for over 3 minutes it would rather come out looking like a cup or a biscuit like our one did. When our cupcake came out looking like a cup we just filled it with chocolate syrup and that was so delicious. One thing I would like to improve is managing self because i'm always going to other people's
kitchen to see what they are doing.
- Put 1 cup of S.R flour in the bowl
- Then add 1 cup of sugar in the bowl
- Lastly add 1 egg, 1/3 of oil and 1/3 of milk in the bowl
- Whisk all in one bowl using the electric whisk
- Line the muffin tray and serve one spoon each muffin and top up the rest of leftover mixture

Maths-Test
Today we had a maths test and I was so scared. Maths isn't really what I do but giving it a try is good. When we started I found the first question very easy but while we were going on it started to get more tricky. Miss Komor and Kelly handed us some paper and pencils to help and then it started to get more easier. The most difficult question I found challenging was decimals and I found that very challenging and also I found fractions very challenging. Some questions I found really easy was the times table ones because last year we always worked on our times tables and it helped a lot. Another load of questions I found really easy was the addition question because I have a strategy that will help me solve any addition question. Next time I really need to improve on my fractions and also I really, really need to work on my decimals. After the test I started getting nervous if I got the right answers or if I rushed it to get it done fast, so I went back and checked so I can be happy with my answers.
Census
Every 5 years New Zealand has a special day named Census. New Zealand's first official national population was held in 1851. What they do is they go around and give a form to people and on that form is a set of questions about themselves and their household. I never knew that census was a big part of the world, I never knew Census exist but now I know what census does. While we were working I started to find trouble on why census was important so I did some research and nothing showed up so I just gave up and worked on something else.
From that I learnt that I can research more then 1 time to find ideas and to connect the dots. I also learnt more about the company census and I also learnt the impact it does to our country. Next time I could search up more than one site and also I could ask some of my friends or teachers to help me.

Nachos-Technology Reflection
Today we went to technology again. When we got their we had to stand into 2 lines and in our 2 lines it was 1 line of year 7's and 1 line of year 8's. When we got inside Miss Tuipulotu said that the year 7's were making fruit salad and then we were all sad because we wanted to make the fruit salad. But then Miss Tuipulotu said that were making Nachos and we were really happy. And then the year 7's were sad but happy at the same time because they were gonna make something nice next week. While we were making it my eyes were watering because of cutting the onions but it was really fun. I really enjoyed the part when we ate it and also the part when me and Alo were mixing the meat and onions. Here is how you make it:
- Onions
- Brrasil
- Tamato Puree
- Baked beans
- Salt
- Pepper
- Ground Meat
Methods
- Dice your onion and fry until soft.
- Add the mince and fry until its cooked.
- Add tomato puree, bake beans, brasil, salt and pepper and mix.
- Cook well and serve it with nacho chips.
Two people stabbed in Panmure
Today for the first block Home group 1 went to their buddy class while our homegroup stayed in class and finished up on our blogs. The article I chose was taken place in Panmure, near my house. A challenge I found was trying to find out why this happened and how did it start.

ProudFoot- Assembly
Yesterday after lunchtime we had a Assembly. And when we got down to the hall we see a whole lot of instruments. Some of the instruments were made out of wood and the others were weird looking poles. When everyone was settled and we were sitting down a man came walking past us with a huge smile on his face. When he got on the stage he started to explain a little bit about himself and while he was talking about himself he started to make a few weird noises and it was so funny. In my head I already knew that the show will be very exciting. Then he grabbed his guitar and explained a character from a book that he wrote. And after explaining the character he played the guitar and it sounded so "AMAZING". Then he played the guitar with the drums and it sounded better than AMAZING. Then he explained some cultural instruments and then the show was finished.
Tennis Reflection
Today we had tennis and for tennis we were practicing how to serve. I felt really nervous because I have never played tennis before. I was really looking forward to learn how to serve and also how to aim. Before we got to the main point we had to practise how we set up the ball. I usually throw with my right hand but we had to throw the ball with our weak hand and what I found challenging was aiming and from that I learnt that I usually focus on 1 arm but training both arms will make other things easier. So next time I can try working on both arms and then everything will be a lot easier.
